but also to thank Derek and Rod for making this possible.

Rod: i don't know how long this has been in the planning since you
suggested this to the community, but at least from my perception
it was amazing to see to have a fully working platform a few #
days after the idea was discussed.

My deepest respect

ok guys or perhaps as Vet would say troops, Ive slept on this & heres how I see it.

It would be correct to learn & use the correct terms, compared to such obviously incorrect terms as hanshee , which as I have stated before is not a ladies kukri but a ladies broad sickle, used for cutting crops,{shows problems already as we will have differnt perspectives along the way. but i am sure we can work them out.}

I am sure Bhojpure terminology is dubias as well.

The problem will be getting them accepted by fellow kukri collectors around the world. but I think it could be done.

For me to learn & accept these terms & for others to learn & accept them,, I think it would would need a database. {series of photos for each class of weapon.} with the terms & explantions alongside them. {a similar but more detailed format similar to the old styles HI page listed above.

A variation in spelling will almost certainly still exist as after all kukri can have around 20 spellings! and Ghurka quite a few as well.

I would suggest that as between us represent a considerable proportion of the collecters of these antiques that we collect a list of the required descriptive words..

long, short, thin, broad, leaf, curved , angled, handle blade, etc. etc.

And formulate if we can a terminolgy against specific criteria to decide, into which bracket each kukri falls.{obviously some kukri will fall between groups or into multiple groups.}

If we can get a series of photos & names that we all agree are more accurate than those currently used. {varied examples of each model would be needed.}

we then put that list & pix . on the web, {presumably on your website Simon?} & send a joint statement from all of us involved to all the leading kukri collectors of the world via email,& & post it on the relevant 7 forums as a statement of our opinion. perhaps as the "guild of antique kukri ethusiasts" or some such?

I think then it might work on an international level.

or rather it will or it wont but we will certainly have done our best for the sake of accuracy.

what do you reckon?

cheers,
Spiral

Andreas, Thank you for the kind words but as Spiral says it was his post on the Tora forum that was the motivational force.
Derek has done a fantastic job and is the reason this happened so fast.

Hello folks,

Steve Ferguson here. I know many of you from other forums. You gentlemen have done a wonderful job getting this forum up and running. I'm sure that I will have many more questions than answers, being no expert. But I do love khukuris and other ethnic blades, and love to share my very small and ordinary collection.

Thanks,

Steve
