The union flag has been flown at half mast today because 100 years ago today Private James Wallington died on the western front. His was not a over the top brave death, he died of "sickness and heart failure" no less brave and I wish to remember him here today.
He spent exactly one year in France, he survived the battle of the Somme but the strain may have been too much.
We can only speculate how this fine kukri came to be in his belongings and sent home after his death. He was 34 years old and left a widow and four children back home in Glamorgan.

James I remember you today, I remember you often I will always be thankful for your sacrifice and that of all those who have died in our defence. Stand down and rest easy.

Captain.
