Hello All ,
Don't know if this is the question to ask here .Wonder if anyone can help me out . I am looking at making a leather quick release scabbard / sheath for a kukri with a 12" blade and a belly width of 2 1/4" . My question is this , because I would be leaving an area of between 1/3 and 1/2 the length of the spine from the bolster towards the tip open for quick release , could I make a really snug fit between the all round edge of the blade and the welt or should I leave a small gap for a little play , and if so roughly how much space ?
Just to give some idea of the basics , the scabbard will consist of a front and a back separated by a welt (all leather) , and the front will be wet formed to follow the contours of the blade .
I am not new to sheath making this way but I have never attempted it on a curved blade like a kukri before , so if any forum member has done this before any tips would be appreciated .
Thanks.
Mike
