I picked up an old kukri that came dirty, with active surface rust and someones previous attempts to clean it that left scratches. Its an old blade.

Well I pre-cleaned it with some wax and grease remover and a cloth and a bit of work. I then used some Autosol and rubbed the blade to remove the active surface rust. Then finished with wax and grease remover then a lite coat of mineral oil.

All the rust and gunk in removed but the patina remains.

However the scratches are still evident. I don't think i should take it further as is is a nice old metal hilted kukri.

I have included a before and after in same side and area of blade.

Any advice welcome.

Well I gave blade another clean this time with 0000 steel wool and Mineral oil. Also used some mineral oil and 1200 grit wet and dry. Then final rub with Grease and wax remover. The hilt has had nothing but wax and grease remover with cloth and lots of rubbing. I think i'm happy with the result. there is no active rust and it retains character. it retains its sharpening marks on the blade edge and the scratches seems to not be as prevalent.

Ok.... Youve done a good clean, Nice!

I think, Id hold on there for a while as that looks a good high value, Rare and collectable, kora hilted kukri.

How long is the blade and what does it weight? Other dimensions welcome!

Any marks to spine?

Can we have pics , showing detail of butt and fore plates, bolster, as many details as possible....

Thank you for sharing! Makes the hours of tedium worthwhile!

Not sure is I'm just hallucinating but there are these on spine. C P ?? or just some patina that looks like some marks now that you asked for them. Only became visible after some autosol.

mmmm Sounds & looks very nice!

The mark is in correct place for marks, but whether it once was or not, or just a mark of age and use I cant tell.

Thanks for pics!

Yes my favourite kukri so far. Pity it seems to have been left in a garage to rust.

I don't think it is a mark in the end.

I'm very hesitant to "clean" any kukri. But in this case I don't think I had an option or watch it rust. The before photo above was actually a better part of the blade when I first got it. Other side was very rusted.

Thanks
