I picked this up a while ago now it is a bit dog eared but is an original. I can't see a single kuk but am hoping they are Gurkha's.
My question is does anyone know when and where this is taken, my guess is no one is going to say it was taken on such a such day just outside you know where in mid to western so and so.

Here is a close up on one half.

I was thinking it looks a bit like France and WW1 era how close am I?
Many thanks and hope you enjoy.

Ok, i'll have a stab at dating the photo;
The European chaps look to be wearing Khaki Drill Service Dress, with 1908 pattern web belt and the 1939 Pattern Field Service cap. This would date the photo to about '39/'40/'41. KD suggests tropical climate; looking at the tree(?) somewhere in Asia. The Gurkhas are sporting the 1903 pattern Mounted leather bandolier, which was in limited use as late as 1941 and the 1903 pattern leather belt, which was issued up 'till very recently! The mule in the background looks to have seen better days!!

The soldiers in this picture look very young to me, anywhere from 10 to 17 years of age could they be a group of line boys?

Thanks for your thoughts gents.
I can not see any insignia apart from hat badge on one of the officers to small to see any details last on right.
I do not see any weapons which could age it, as for where in the world it looks like the building in the background may have a covered balcony?

Great photo chaps!

Id guess pre.ww2 in India or Burma. no real evidence though. {just has a colonial feel.}
Lady in flowing dress & parasol would seem more Likely to be India Asia if that era.}

The young Gurkhas seem to have a few swagger sticks but no rank markings... seems unusual. Wonder why?

They do seem young lads.
The English are ranked Sargent 2 lance corporals and 2 corporals, If my strip recognition is correct.
Well spotted on the swagger sticks most do have them.
I have noticed in the top left 2 onlookers one looks like he is wearing what I would wrongly call pyjama trousers.

I have looked on the back of the print and nothing written have tried to peel back backing paper but it's stuck so conjecture is the order of the day. :lol:

The chap on the left seems to be in a different coloured shirt and is not wearing a hat, as is the lad at the other end.
I really wish this could talk. What far of days?
